Early on in its history the Alexander Technique had strong links with science and the work of
physiologists and anatomists whose names are no longer well known (such as
Coghill, Sherrington, Magnus and Dart).
Raymond
Dart, better known as an anthropologist, made original contributions to the Alexander Technique.
Recent research has mostly concerned postural disorders, especially back pain.
The British Medical Journal published a
clinical trial and economic
evaluation of the Alexander Technique applied to back pain.
The British Medical Journal also produced the videos at the bottom of this page to present the results.
Subjects' experiences of this trial were found and published in the
Family Practice journal.
